Air – Complete WiFi Setup and/or Captive portal via Admin Session

⚠️ Important: A complete step-by-step guide (including a video tutorial) is available at the end  to help users perform this procedure independently, see the Link at the end of this KB, or HERE.

Scope

This article explains how to use the admin session (Medinbox-service) to perform actions requiring internet access, such as web-based authentication (captive portal), when the standard user session (Medinbox-user) is restricted.

Context

Medinbox systems typically include two Windows sessions:

  • Medinbox-user (Standard Session)

    • Restricted permissions

    • No access to web browsers

    • Used for normal operations

  • Medinbox-service (Admin Session)

    • Administrative privileges

    • Full access to web browsers and network settings

Some operations (e.g., via browser) require the use of the admin session.

Use Case

This procedure applies when:

  • A service requires browser-based authentication (captive portal)

  • The Medinbox-user session cannot access internet browsers

  • Authentication must be completed to enable functionality

Procedure

1. Access the Admin Session

  1. From the Windows login screen, select:

    Medinbox-service
  2. Enter the administrator credentials (provided by Medinbox Support).

  3. Once logged in:

    • Connect to the appropriate Wi-Fi network (if required)

    • Open a web browser (e.g., Google Chrome)

2. Perform Web Authentication (captive portal)

  1. Access the required platform.

  2. Complete the browser-based authentication (captive portal) process.

⚠️ Important:

  • Do not close the browser after authentication

  • The session must remain active in the background

3. Return to the User Session

  1. Press:

    Ctrl + Alt + Delete
  2. Click:

    Switch user

⚠️ Do NOT select “Sign out”

  3. Select:

    Medinbox-user
  4. Log in normally.

Expected Result

  • The admin session remains active in the background

  • Authentication remains valid

  • The Medinbox-user session can use the authenticated service

This resource includes:

  • A detailed written procedure

  • A visual walkthrough of the process

Important Notes

  • Do not sign out from the Medinbox-service session
→ This will cancel the authentication

  • Do not restart or shut down the system during the process

  • The admin session must remain open for the authentication to persist
